Sunday 18th July – Burton Leonard 10km

Report from Phil Robinson:

Looking round at the start, I was the only OAC runner taking part.

On a very warm muggy afternoon the pace (mine) was sluggish. Much of the route is off road and quite undulating.

Gary Dunn (Thirsk) won the race in 34.08 and I finished 84th out of 213 in a depressing 48.54, just behind Bill Wade of Holmfirth, one of my regular age-group targets. Talking to Bill before the race, he owned up to having run the three peaks this year…for the fortieth time.

Saturday 17th July – Yorkshire Wolds Half Marathon

billy_bwdale_bwA Club Runner of the Year event and also an intrinsic part of the Bishop Wilton Show.

Results from ukresults detail that the race was won by Matt Moorhouse (Salford) in 72.33 and for OAC, Dale Foster finished tenth (81.32) and Billy Rayner 172nd (113.14).

Photos courtesy of pocklingtonrunners show Dale Foster and Billy Rayner both enjoying one of the most scenic races of the year. Billy comments, “My time was 1:53:14 and very pleased with that. Nearly two and a half mins quicker than last year and my fifth quickest half out of twenty I have completed. I’ve only done Brass Monkey, Leeds (x2) and Bridlington quicker. I’ve actually done Brass Monkey three times & two of those were slower than Saturday”.

Dale comments, ” I dropped off about 8-10 miles, set off with three leading guys and Lytham runner, then got passed on that short steepish road section after my offroad specialist bit…I was tenth eventually. Did my usual trick of setting off behindsomeone and finishing ahead without passing them. As I’m not aware of any short cuts can only assume they pulled in to one side and carried on after I passed!”.

Saturday 17th July – Park Run Bushy Park 5km

Report from Tom Paget:

In Surrey on our family summer holiday, and as part of the “having time to yourself whilst your spouse looks after the children so you can go for a run/have a lie in negotiations”, it was my turn to look after them this morning.

However not to be outdone, I decided to run the Bushy Park 5k, with the slight inconvenience of pushing a double buggy, complete with two children.

After removing all child comforts from the pushchair to save on weight, and checking tyre pressures to ensure optimum performance we set off, and we were very pleased to finish 179th in a time of 22.59, with only one of us in tears at the finish line.

Having trawled extensively through the club archives, I believe this to be a new club record at this event?!?

For the competitive members at the club without children, it seems unfair that you don’t have the opportunity to try and beat this record, and therefore I am very willing to loan out the pushchair and children on Saturday mornings for a small fee for those of you who wish to give it a go.

The race was won by Nick Anderson (Enfield & Haringey A.C.) in 15.47.

Without double buggy.
