Report from Andrew Robertshaw: I went to the Arncliffe Gala this afternoon and did the 4 mile road race followed by the fell race an hour or so later. I was tenth and first old man in 22.31. Alan Buckley (Leeds City) won in 20.29. Sarah Jarvis (Bingley Harriers) was first lady in 23.40 after a strong early challenge from junior fell runner Mel Hyder (Helm Hill) in the first mile. From fellrunner.org, this race of 3 miles / 575′ was won by Darren Brame (Keighley) in 16.05. For OAC, Huw Illingworth finished eighth (17.35), Adam Baird fifteenth (20.24) and Michael Fryer 22nd (23.30).
OAC’s Mark Hall texts in that he was pleased with his run finishing fifth in 57.43 (and first MV50). Second claim OAC member Beth Massey finished 80th in 71.35 (first FV40 and also South Yorkshire FV40 Champion). OAC’s only other member was Phil Robinson crossing the line in 131st place (75.50). Early start for OAC’s Hugh Pearson in this incredible event covering 2.4 mile open water swim / 112 mile cycle / 26.2 mile marathon run. Hugh finished 542nd overall in 13.29.55 with splits of 1.39.22 swim / 6.08.04 cycle / 5.29.26 run and a couple of transitions in between. Full splits from racetimingsystems. Dale Foster texts in that for the second time in two weeks he was denied another race win by the narrowest of margins at the 5.83 miles / 1,263′ fell race at Osmotherley Show. The race was won by Joe Blackett (North York Moors) in 42.17 with Dale second in 42.21. Results from fellrunner.
