Report from Liam Dunne:
The Glendalough Trail Race (15km / 500m ascent) was run in the hills surrounding Glendalough lakes. The conditions were perfect, beautiful scenery and a sunny October day.
The race consisted of mainly woodland trail with some boggy narrow paths.
To my surprise I was sharing the lead early on but was struggling on the long climbs. At the start of the descent I started to pull away and in the last kilometre, just as I was planning my first victory celebration, I was re-joined and then passed by the man in second place, who I subsequently found out had run the Dublin Marathon five days earlier!
The race was well organised with clear markings all the way round and a very friendly atmosphere and loads of free food and drinks at the finish including a pile of sandwiches to rival the hills we had just run.
I was delighted to have finished in second place especially when I heard the winner achieved a time of 2hr 35mins in the Dublin Marathon.
The race was won by Peter Mooney (65.09), I was second in 65.20 and third was Finbar Kirwin (66.52).
