Saturday 23rd April – Anniversary Waltz Fell Race

Report from Sarah Fuller:

The continuing fell running adventures of Captain Slow involved a date with the Anniversary Waltz Fell Race on Saturday (a smidge under twelve miles and 3,600 or so ft ascent).

The route is around the Newlands Horseshoe nr Keswick.

The only claggy day of the weekend was a blessing and a curse in that it was not so boiling hot but also meant a big group of us made an impromptu big detour after descending Dale Head (I’m still kicking myself for following the crowd – baaaaa!).

Still, fab event, faultless organisation and five peaks to run (ok walk) up what more can one ask (oh and you also get a free beer when you finish!). Despite my extra bit of sightseeing, I was eight minutes or so quicker than last year coming in around 2 hrs 55 ish – my timing. So both pre-race goals acheived (the other to not be last!). So only onwards and upwards from here on, surely all this training has to make me quicker at some point (we wait with baited breath!!).

Results out soon but I’d be suprised if there were many behind me (apart from those that followed us of course!!).
