Sunday 9th October – Pentland Skyline Fell Race

pentlandskylineReport from OAC’s Matt Podd:

I ran the Pentland Skyline Fell Race today (16.7 miles / 6,200′ – being more than the 3 Peaks) passing over all twelve of the Pentlands tops and visiting the valleys between them.

The race was won by Alasdair Anthony (Ochil Hill Runners) in 2.38.13 and Jasmin Paris (Carnethy) in seventh position overall in 2.54.34.

I finished 138th out of 186 finishers in 4.01.50.

Another triumph of masochism. This AL fell race runs over the hills south of Edinburgh from the dry ski slope (bottom of, and no use of lifts).

Conditions were wonderful – rain, cloud and galeforce winds although the rain did stop for the second half.

Considering the closeness to the Scottish capital there were long sections without path to make it more fun.

Conditions underfoot were slightly muddy – often knee deep.

I really enjoyed it and would recommend it to anyone who like a nice gentle trot out over hills they have never run before. But who will inherit my ‘long-race special hat’ that took off heading towards Denmark…?
