Sunday 6th November – Cop Hill Fell Race, Meltham

Report from OAC’s Liam Dunne:

I ventured over towards the Pennines to visit family and partake in the Cop Hill Fell Race. A gentle course in terms of fell running as it incorporated only 900ft over 7 mile.

This kind of course suited me as I have been away from the hills since my last fell race which was Snowdon last July.

As it happens I was the sole representative from OAC, probably because the remainder were battling it out on the climbs of Todmorden yesterday, whilst I was working.

It was a two lap course and judging by the times it seems it was a little shorter than advertised.

It consisted of grassy and road climbs before a few fast, steep and boggy descents.

I managed to make my way to second place (39.34) not long before the finish and took the YVAA MV35 prize.

I must admit that initially I was pretty pleased with the prize but then it just made me realise that I’m hitting that age category thing…..but I suppose if I’m getting better with age it can’t be too bad!

The race was won by Dave Watson (Holmfirth Harriers) in 38.23 with Paul Stevenson (Pudsey & Bramley) in third (39.45). The first lady was Katie Walshaw (Holmfirth Harriers) in 41.33.

Report in the wharfedaleobserver.

Results and details from Meltham A.C. and ukresults.
