Sunday 12th February – Liversedge Half Marathon

Tom Potter and Tom Midgley travelled over to Liversedge for the annual half-marathon on Sunday.

Tom Potter reports: “A rather hilly course for a road race, much of the course is similar to that of the Spen 20m race.

“I had a target time of approximately 1:38, this time was based on the 1:34 that I got at the Brass Monkey half-marathon three weeks ago.

“Really enjoyed the race and was absolutely delighted to smash my PB by 50 seconds finishing in 1:34 and 8 seconds – over 14 minutes quicker than last years race!

Tom Midgley (pictured right) had a cracker of a race and was fifth place overall in 78:55, Tom Paget 93:42, Howard Jeffrey 94:41 (I just pipped him at the last!) Mick Jeffrey 98:46 (Mick was clearly struggling with a leg injury), Jane Butler 110:51, Tom Hannah 114:33, Billy Rayner 117:10 and Sara Richard 121:33.

“If you’ve never raced the Spen 20m before I’d really recommend the race Sunday 11th March 2012.”

Conditions were just about perfect. Talking to Tom Potter at the start I suggested it wasn’t a course for a PB. How wrong you can be! My target was 1.35 which I did in wholly the wrong way. Set off like the clappers downhill under 6 minutes for mile one, felt good and was racing Tom Padget till mile 11 He passed me on the ups and I passed him on the downs. Got stitch, legs turned to jelly slowed to a crawl but glad to be a target for Tom Potter to run down (I do not let anyone finish in front of me if I can help it). Well done to Tom, Tom, Mick (?) Tom, Billy, Sarah and Jane. No jokes about Tom Tom sat navs
