Friday 23rd – Monday 26th March – Lakes Training Weekend

Reports on the Club’s annual Lakes Training Weekend.

Firstly, from Colin Best:

Another excellent training/social weekend. Thanks to Tom for organising it once again.

Couldn’t complain with wall to wall sunshine and some excellent runs. There were several groups including choices from leg one of the Bob Graham (and a bit more), mountain-biking as well as Rogan and Hugh running in the Great Grizedale Trail Run.

Thanks to Barbara for another excellent communal buffet. Also Jackie, Janet and Jack for their singing and Rogan for his guitar accompaniment.

Pictures in Club Photos give a flavour and include sunrise from Helvellyn summit and a walk to Dufton Pike on way home.

And a report also from Sharron Smith:

Here’s a thank you and fellrunner’s appreciation of the training weekend in the Lakes…

For those members who have never been on an OAC club weekend there are a few things that can be guaranteed and they are: excellent pre-planned routes to suit all abilities, superb location and accommodation (5 star self caterering!) with fantastic communal living/catering and the weather this year made equally for a chilled out affair as well as great group training!

Nestled at the top of Ullswater, the venue gave a variety of off and on-trail runs and was close to Keswick for the more exciting fells. For Lakeland racing, you’ve gotta get up the big fells! Lead by Andrew, the fellrunners certainly got a great run with a close encounter with hand-gliders… All members given priority and no-one was ever left behind… thanks for waiting guys!

As one member said, “It’s a privilege to run with you all” and I responded, “you don’t have to be posh to be privileged” and at £50 for three nights it’s more comfortable than camping!

So it’s a big banquet at our cottage next year. So for those who don’t need an excuse to do some quality training, get your names down with Tom, grandfather tour operator who can please everyone. Cheers Otley A.C.!!

Oh how I miss the Lake District. !!

Tom, please put me down for next year.

( I will see if I can get some arabs to join us – having prepared by running up and down the Tuwaiq escarpment.)
