Saturday 19th May – Charlesworth Chase

Report from OAC’s Matt Podd:

I did this first running (of what they hope will be an annual event) of the Charlesworth Chase Fell Race (BS 5.1 miles / 1,201′) from Appletreewick down the river to Howgill and straight up the steep side of Simon’s Seat, touch the trig and back down.

This race however had a couple of novelty features – Wharfedale Harriers put it on to celebrate the marriage of two of their members and the bride was given a head start – Chase the Bride.

Read the feature in today’s Yorkshire Post.

Reports in the Daily Mail and The Sun.

Then before crossing the finishing line you had to drink a pint! (Dave wimpy Wilby only had water).

Great race with breakneck descent. I was 63rd (55.03) and the only OAC runner.

Best wishes to Nick Charlesworth and Sarah Martin (who finished eighth overall, albeit with a 20 minute start) who then went to their wedding, her with grazes from falling.

Results from Wharfedale Harriers.

The race was won by Ian Holmes (Bingley) in 38.03 and Louisa Pickles (Wharfedale Harriers) 24th in 47.10.

  1. Go easy on Dave, after all there is a reason he runs for them lot at the other end of the A65!

  2. Well run Matt, great “Black and White” running.
Keep the efforts going well done!
