Thursday 7th June – Abbey Anniversary Fell Race

Report by Hon. Club Handicapper Andrew on the Abbey Anniversary Fell Race:

This race was introduced three years ago as part of Abbey Runners 25th Anniversay and hence the name. Details of the race from fellrunner.

It’s a 5 mile / 1,800′ race over the hill to the west of Kettlewell then down the other side, almost to Arncliffe and back. So even though it’s a relatively short race it has two long climbs the equivalent of the Chevin race the day before and a few did both races.

OAC’s Matt John had a close race with Wharfedale’s Mark McGoldrick, eventually coming home first in 38.15.

I came sixth after another battle with a couple of Wharfedalers in 40.34, Caron Ralph was pleased to finish in just under the hour in 59.24.

We all came home with at least one box of chocolates and Matt a voucher for a weekend at the pub too.  As did the lady who was the last finisher, next year it might be a case of ,  ‘after you, no, no after you…’,

and I forgot to say it was a little on the wet side, ok for running but not the best of nights to be out marshaling on the fells.
