Sunday 12th August – The Cross Bay Half Marathon

Report from OAC’s Tom Paget:

I ran the Cross Bay Half Marathon on Sunday.

It is a fantastic point-to-point race from one side of Morecambe Bay to the other.

The route is run entirely on the sands and headed right out into the bowels of the bay and included numerous river crossings – some of which were waist deep.

Thirteen miles of running on sand and through water was incredibly energy sapping but the awe inspiring views of the whole field snaking their way across the bay more than made up for it.

My university days of training on the beach at St Andrews (where the famous Chariots of Fire opening scene was filmed) obviously paid dividends as I finished fifteenth out of 561 runners in 1:44:13.

The race was won by John French (Eden Runners) in 1:32:17 and the first lady in 26th place overall was Yasmin Chaudhri (Cumberland A.C.) in 1:47:27.
