Friday 17th August – Back The Track in Otley

OAC’s Simon Anderson has started a campaign for a running track in Otley as a lasting legacy from the London Olympics.

Launching the initiative this week (when Otley welcomed home its very own Olympic silver medalist, Lizzie Armitstead, see the Wharfedale Observer report here), there has been much support for Back The Track from local dignitaries including MP Greg Mulholland, Otley Town Council leader Councillor John Eveleigh, Councillor Ryk Downes, Ward and parish Councillor Clive Fox.

Several locations for the track and clubhouse are being considered but each depend upon reaching an agreement and working in partnership with landowners and other organisations.

Simon is inviting anyone interested in helping to get in touch by e-mail.

Read the full report in this week’s Wharfedale Observer.

There’s also a report on Lizzie’s Otley homecoming celebrations and an interview with her dad, John, on the bbc website.
