Five OAC Juniors made it over to a bright and sunny Penistone Hill above Haworth for 10.30 – just – to take part in the Curly Wurly Rat Runs. Suzy Mallinson, Matthew O’Neill, Linus and Seth Weatherhead in the U8 1/2 mile and William O’Neill in U10 1 mile category.
They started off down in the quarry, scambled up a hill, along the top, good steady descents down the hill and scrambled up the hill again to the finish. Although Suzy did not finish, it was a strong effort by all. The U8 race, with 65 runners, was won by Jath Lee from Keighley and Craven (2nd last year) in 2.58 minutes. Linus came 20th in 3.49, Matthew 34th in 4.12, Seth 51st in 4.57.
William had double the scrambling around to do in a congested combined race for the older age categories, 121 runners, and finished very strongly, 43rd overall and 11th U10, with a time of 8.43. The U10 race was won by Callum Durrans, Holmfirth Harriers, in 7.12.
