Sunday 9th December – Bedford Half Marathon

Report from Tom Paget:

I set myself a challenge at the beginning of 2012 to run a half marathon race in every month of the year, the final instalment of which was the Bedford Half Marathon – Bedford being the closest half marathon I could find in December!

It was a pleasant course, although surprisingly undulating, and the ubiquitous windy weather that has haunted me for a large number of these races was once again doing its best to slow the field. Not to be outdone I was pleased to knock another few seconds off my PB, finishing 120th in 88.39 (chip time). Full results from Bedford Harriers.

The race was won by Paul Martelletti (Victoria Park & Tower Hamlets Harriers) in 69.54 and the first lady in 50th position overall was Alex Gounelas (Eton Manor A.C.) in 82.39

I’ve really enjoyed the year long challenge, which has seen me running on roads, fells, beaches, forests and trails, and have (albeit marginally) had a few PBs along the way.

My challenge for next year is to repay my long suffering wife for all those Sundays she’s had the children on her own for the day. The hardest may be yet to come!

  1. Nice one Tom. Quite an achievement convincing your wife that what you were doing was a good idea. Monthly half marathons isn’t bad going either! Congratulations mate.

  2. Hi Tom,
Nice to see you did a PB, i was the Ex Valley Strider that chatted with you in the first mile. Well Done.
