Sunday 23rd December – Ken Dixon Handicap at Fewston

Blustery and showery conditions greeted runners at the  the final race in this year’s handicap championship the, “Ken Dixon“, named after the former member now resident in Zimbabwe, who instigated this traditional Christmas handicap in 1989.

Thanks to Tom for ‘flagging’ the route and Kath, Jack, Caron & Liz for marshaling & recording duties.

Carol made a remarkable return after recent injury and illness to take the win, fairly comfortably ahead  of Chris Wordsworth and Andy Webster.

The other race within the race between Richard, Billy and Tom for the overall handicap title was a tense affair as all three set off on 12 minutes.  Billy pushed the pace on the Timble loop, passing the car park with a 15 second lead on Richard, with a struggling Tom a further 59 seconds behind.  Billy stormed through for a fourth place and 15 points to take the Eric Smith handicap title for the second time, leaving Richard with the silver and Tom the bronze.

Compliments to Carol Armitstead for winning the Ken Dixon Christmas race, when she passed me at about 500 meters before the finish i was impressed how powerful her pace was . Congratulation to Billy for winning the Eric Smith Championship once again, well done. It was nice to see Malcom again ,after such a long time i did not meet him at races.
