Sunday 3rd March – Glaisdale Rigg Fell Race

Report from OAC’s Graham Lake:

Been up to visit the folks in Glaisdale on the North Yorkshire Moors, which just happened to coincide with the local Glaisdale Rigg Fell Race (come on, admit it, we’ve all done it). My brother was running it also, so family bragging rights at stake too.

About 100 intrepid folk set off for the 8.5m / 1,844′ fell race from the lower end of the village, up onto the moors (bit of local knowledge saved me a few places when others went the wrong way) before diving down to the valley floor (boggy), then up again through the forest to the other side of the valley before a fast, long, muddy, rocky descent to the finish (at the pub).

A quick look over the shoulder of the race organiser from Esk Valley Fell Club showed me in sixteenth (67.16) now confirmed by the results here.

The race was won by Jayson Cavill (Pickering R.C.) in 58.28 and the first lady in 39th position overall was Carol Morgan (Nidd Valley) in 73.06.

Excellent run Graham, and I see from checking the results you did prevail to in the family bragging rights too, a sibling rivalry to match the Jeffrey or Brownlee brothers in that order or importance!

Ha! Can only dream of that level of competitiveness (Jeffreys that is).
