Wednesday 20th-24th March – European Masters Indoor Championships (Esp)

400m victory cerem 2-c-aReport from OAC’s Caroline Marler:

After my recent performances at the British Masters Indoor Championships, the next stop was to compete for Great Britain in the European Masters Indoor Championships in San Sebastian, Spain.

I finished up with two Gold medals and one Bronze medal.

Despite running a poorly paced race, starting too fast and fading badly, I hung on to win the W60 400m in 71.42, beating Ulrike Heltscher from Germany into second place (72.04) and Anna Michelettie from Italy into third place (72.76).

In the W60 800m, GB’s Nancy Hitchmough (Dudley & Stourbridge) won in 2:41.30, W. Egger from Italy was second in 2:47.21 and I came third in 2:51.58. Out of the twelve finalists, four runners from Great Britain came in the top 5!

On the final day of competition all the relays were run. I anchored the W60 4x200m team to a very good win against Italy, Spain and Germany. A British team already held the world record for this age group and we managed to beat it – running about a second faster – 2:10.44.

The next big competition to peak for is the World Veterans Championships in Porto Allegre, Brazil in October this year!
