Report from OAC’s Matt Broughton:
I took part in the Eldwick Gala Fell Race (3 miles / 551′).
I ran this last year where the weather was pretty wet and miserable but today, as you’d hope for this time of year, was warm and quite pleasant.
Strange but from what I could see, I was the only OAC runner. Amazing really because this is a great local event and very family friendly.
A New Orleans style Jazz band played whilst the runners assembled which was great to see.
The race started on Eldwick high street but soon found it’s way off-road for about a mile or so of challenging climb. Heading out was great as the spitfire that was part of the event flew over our heads as we ran out of Eldwick.
Once we reached the summit on Baildon moor It was a speedy decent, followed by a short detour before returning back to the registration point. I finished in 22:03 which was a huge two seconds faster than last year. Lots of Ilkley vests lead home by winner Tom Adams. Let’s show a bigger OAC presence next year 🙂
