Friday 12th July – Washburn Valley Relay

The Washburn Valley Relay, kindly sponsored by Knaresborough digital agency Vital Online Studio.

The strong Baildon mixed team of Emma Stoney, Quentin Lewis and Matthew Gurney saw them return home with both the first team and mixed team trophies.

First back on the the opening leg was Saltaire strider’s Will Kerr (18:43).

Steve Darby (24:13), retained their lead by the end of the leg 2 lap of Fewston, but the fastest leg 2 of the day from Quentin (22:41), saw Baildon close the gap bringing his team up to third, just behind Abbey Runners Men.

On the last leg Matthew Gurney (20:03), passed Saltaire and Abbey Runners and just held off Rob Cunningham (19:25) of Ilkley running the fastest lap of Swinsty.

First Ladies team and 8th overall and a new Ladies record of 1:07:52, were ‘Hot to Trot’ from Harrogate Harriers, with Jenny Hutcheson (20:59), Issy Rowe (24:24), (a new Leg 2 Ladies record) and Cathy Wright (22:29).

6th    Ross Armstrong (20:00), Graham Lake (25:40)  and Lloyd Best (21:08)
15th  Matt Podd (23:15), Paul Clifford (28:07), Michael Pickard (22:15)
18th  Tamara Weatherhead (21:20), Karen Best (27:21), Pange Srivastava (27:09) – 4th Ladies
30th Caron Ralph (24:26), Jackie Ackroyd (33:06), Laura Taylor (26:38) – 11th Ladies

  1. Thank you organisers and helpers. I kinda enjoyed the race though it was unpleasantly warm and I was a sickly shade of white apparently when I wobbled in.

    Great run from the departing Ross to put us in 4th on first leg, shame I took us backwards ;o)

  4. Agree with you Tamara! Was very hot and Graham I don’t think you slowed the team down-your beard is an alternative to racing stripes!

  6. Leg 2 might have been flat but it was faster and longer and Graham put in a good stint. well done all.
