Sunday 11th August – Askern 10 Miles

Report from OAC’s Tom Potter:

Today I ventured over to Askern, near Doncaster for the Askern 10 Mile Road Race. After running this reasonably tough road race in 2011 I decided to have another crack at it in order to try and break my PB, recently set at the Otley 10.

I was due to travel over with Ian Fisher however Ian had to sadly withdraw due to illness and to my knowledge there was only one other OAC member present today and that was Dave Hainsworth.

The race conditions were not perfect, a constant side wind and burst of rain and sunny spells made it all the more difficult. I have to say that I ‘over cooked’ it in the first seven miles and paid the price in the last few miles. Very pleased to finish to race in 68.24 and beat my PB by a good 90 or so seconds.

It was just one of those days when you have a stormer and almost everything goes to plan. Lesson to learn in pacing myself in the first half of longer races though.

More details from askerndrc and historic results from ukresults.

From the results, the race was won by Ben Livesey (Birchfield Harriers) in 52.08 and the first lady in eleventh position overall was Katie Parry (Leeds City) in 61.03.

For OAC, Tom Potter finished 80th (68.24) and Dave Hainsworth 247th (87.43)
