Sunday 13th October – Woodland Challenge

Richard Smith writes: “Ran the Woodland Challenge race this morning flawlessly organised by Stadium Runners. From what I could understand the route was completely revised this year following previous complaints that the course, although challenging, lacked woodland.

“An off road race, the route took in approx 90 per cent woodland (we all love a bit of woodland) and although no big climbs, the course was undulating (long drags) and muddy.

“Delighted to announce that I was the first black and white home, fortunately all the others were in

“In the end I squeezed in just under 42 minutes, really suffered from four miles but
reasonably happy overall; definitely more hill/speed sessions needed though. The hamstrings shall
be punished.”

Richard finished in 41:55. The winner was David Watson (Holmfirth) in 36:07 and the first lady in second overall place was Annabel Mason (Wakefield District) in 37:14.

Undulating track through woodland, sounds like my kind of route, well done Richard.

Thanks you three. It was a great race Hannah, would urge more to give it a crack next year. Based in Bradley just off the Hartshead Moor Services. Some great team prizes too. The girl who finished in 2nd overall was around 16-17 years old I think. Remember the name, a huge talent!
