Saturday 23rd November – The ‘Colin Best’ Calverley Handicap

A sunny and frosty morning greeted the runners at the canal side start near the Railway Inn.

John won his first handicap finishing a clear winner ahead of Andy Webster. Steve Robinson recorded the fastest time of the day.

As this was the penultimate handicap race in this year’s Eric Smith trophy, Dominic needed a good finish to claw back some of Ursula’s 21 point lead. He managed to do this reducing the lead to 18 points, finishing 7th.

Dominic now needs a big turn out at the traditional Christmas ‘Ken Dixon’ Handicap at Timble to stand any chance of over turning this lead, but Ursula is undoubtedly the bookies favourite to take the title.

It was a good morning at the Colin Best’s race, I liked it, also if I was last to finish, every club’s members ran really well, especially Caron who is coming back to shape with a convincing run, and Gemma who passed me double speed, well done to Colin and to all of us as well, because it was a splendid place to be.
