Saturday 23rd November – Tour of Pendle

Matt Podd reports: Five Black & White ‘warriors’ ventured to Lancashire to test ourselves on this beast of 17 miles and nearly 5000ft of climbing; basically five times up and down Pendle Hill.

We were blessed with a chilly, but a wonderful day, with huge views lit up by patches of sun. Matt Broughton, Shane Ewan, Andy Hunt, Jim Sneath and I joined a very illustrious field for the 30th running and had a grand day out.

I didn’t see Andy or Shane at the finish, but Matt B (a virgin in this race – bet he got a shock), beat Jim who beat me. There were times during this race when I was nearly enjoying myself, and I didn’t fall – even on Geronimo. Jasmin Paris was first woman, but I haven’t got a clue about the top end.

And here are some photos.

Andy Hunt 51, 2:43:25

Shane Ewan 198, 3:15:53

Matt Broughton 249, 3:24:49

Jim Sneath 255, 3:26:11

Matt Podd 304, 3:37:37

Full results are here.

  1. Fortunately for me I’d took heed to all the warning and managed to keep it steady for first 8 miles leaving just about enough to scramble/crawl up the final ascent. A really tuff but rewarding event. Some great results had by all particularly from Mr Hunt finishing close to the 2:45 mark.

  2. Wow, nice one guys. I take my cap off to you guys (if I had a cap) Sounds like a really tough race.

  3. Gosh how did you manage not to fall down Geronimo? I had a beauty of a you’ve been framed moment going down there a couple of years ago (unfortunately not captured on camera)!! Good effort everyone 🙂

  4. Pure luck and a posative approach to Geronimo. Last time I did a rolling slide down it that damaged my shoulder for 2 months – then promptly fell over on the level path after and trashed my arm and knee. Fell gods were on my side this year. It’s a race that has got to be done – a T shirt to be proud of.
