Club secretary John Dade travelled almost to the other side of the Pennines for this nine-mile race, completing it in 88:55.
The winner was Spencer Riley (Clayton-le-Moors) in 57:49 and the first female was Helen Leigh (Blackburn Harriers) in 1:07:14. John was 159th out of 238.
John commented: I travelled over to Lancashire today to run in this new event. The race started near to Littleborough initially on trails, going under the M62 viaduct and back over the motorway on a narrow bridge.
We then followed more farm tracks till at last we found some mud as we turned onto long uphill climb to join the Pennine Way at Blackstone Edge.
Here the going was rocky with lovely views eventually re-crossing the M62 at the summit. We ran around Windy Hill radio mast and then a three-mile gradual descent on some slippy tracks and paths.
Here I had my ubiquitous fall; doing the splits and face-planting. A nice event, described as fast on the website, but no evidence for that from my time. Nice to see some of the places I’ve raced past at 70mph on the motorway.
