Sunday 16th March – Trimpell 20

Report from Richard Smith:   On the back of a trip to Manchester, it was onwards to Lancaster today to take part in the Trimpell 20 Road Race. A final pre-marathon prep run, I intended to go easy for the first 10 and then look to press on.  In reality though, windy conditions and pretty knackered legs from the off made it a case of hanging in there with gritted teeth.

Although flat, the course was almost too flat and allowed for no respite! The course was effectively out and back on a cycle track before heading up the Lune Valley and back again. Have to say it was more of a ‘purposeful’ course than inspiring! The main highlight was seeing a complacent dad falling over on roller-skates whilst teaching his son (he was okay).

Anyway, I’m pretty certain I was the only black and white warrior there today. Not sure of position but finished up on 2 hours, 20 mins.

Now time to taper – the perfect excuse to eat cake.  The race was won by Ian McBride, Royton RR in 1:51:16,  Richard was 69th in 2:20:24.  Full results here.

  1. You are dismissive, but that’s a fair time in the conditions. We like a bit of street theatre happening around us to take our minds of the pain.
