Saturday 29th March – Heptonstall Fell Race

Heptonstall Fell Race

Renee Saxton finished second lady in in 2:37:22 in this 25k category BL category race held in the upper Calder Valley.

The route takes in a mixture of steep-sided wooded valleys, upland pasture and pathless moorland; and apparently you’ll be hurtling down grassy slopes, struggling across stretches of bog, scrambling up through thick heather, dodging through dense woodland and, most of all, racing over some wild open countryside.

If you get the chance to look around, you’ll see for miles across some of the most beautiful and remote scenery in the South Pennines.

The race proceeds with a memorable start where by the local Vicar sends us on our way with a prayer and ringing of the bell, later greeting us at the finish with flapjack to hand.

The winner was Adam Osborne (Leeds City) in 1:54:10 and the first lady in 28th place overall was Jo Buckley (Calder Valley) in 2:21:32.
