Sunday 27th April – Fountains 10k

Report from Howard Jeffrey:

Great conditions today for the Fountains 10K although everyone deliberating about road or trail shoes. Definitely trail as although the locals described the ‘grimpen myre’ as dryer than usual it was a bit like saying the Atlantic is wetter than the North Sea!

Mark Hall had a storming run to come in second place overall in 36.56 behind the winner Lee Dalton (Nidd Valley) in 35.59. First lady Sharon Barlow (Ripon) in 10th overall in 40.02. I had another solid come-back run in 53rd position in 46.50. Also for Otley, Justina Stringer in 220th in 1.02.17. 295 finishers in the full to capacity race (although 57 No Shows!)

Well done to all the OAC runners today!! Well done to Mark on second place. Well done also the Justina, hope you enjoyed it. I was unfortunately too late to enter this race as I wants to see how my legs were post london. Slightly annoyed about the no shows!

    Mark Hall
Thanks to Howard for giving advice on footwear and course knowledge really helped in the last mile. Mud is not really my thing but needed to race, pleased and surprised at result.

You did a fantastic race Mark and compliments for the second place overall that is like a victory. Also Howard ran really well and Justina as well had a good day in this 10k.

Thanks for your support everyone. I was surprised by the slopes and the very wet marsh mile on the top of the moors. I had a few Chevin Chase flash backs. Nevertheless, I finished with a smile on my face, which was my aim

Well done Mark, great result. Same again next year Justina? It’s on my list to have a go.
