Saturday 17th May – Fairfield Horseshoe fell race (14.5km/914m)

simonARace report from Simon Anderson:

There were 278 starters in this year’s race, setting off from Rydal Hall in glorious weather.

The men’s winner in a time of 1 hour 22 minutes 16 seconds was Adam Osbourne of Leeds City, followed 11 seconds later by previous winner Rhys Findley Robinson. Third was Darren Kay of Pudsey and Bramley. Matt John was 7th in 1:28:18 and I was 23rd (9th V40) in 1:36:10.

In the ladies race Judith Jepson of Dark Peak Fell Runners lead the field in 1 hour 40 minutes 23 seconds.ove Crag to Low Pike we were asked to keep to the east side, therefore times were slightly slower than last year. The blustery head wind at the turn around point also hampered descending, and I found myself struggling to balance at times.

Thanks must be credited to the magnificent organisers of this blue ribbon Lakeland event, who were ably supported by a retinue of generous helpers. The results can be viewed here.

  1. Well done Simon and Matt, I bet it was hard work in the beautiful sunshine we had on Saturday.

  2. That is a great action shot of Simon on one of the constituents of tarmac before it is processed into what I prefer to run on. Good positions for you both and especially as it looks tough going.
