Sunday 29th June – Settle Hill Fell Race

Colin Best took part in this 11.3k race with 400m of ascent.

“Decided to venture out on to the hills for the first time in quite a while. I have always thought this to be one of the most scenic races around and the view from the back once again stunning.

David Fox was the only other Otley entry and I managed to just about keep him in my sights most of the way round despite managing to pass him on the first climb out of Settle.

“My virtually unused Inov-8’s proved very effective on the very steep grassy descent (must say better than Walsh’s) but left my legs shot for the last mile or so. Pleased to have done it must get back to fells again!”

David Fox was 79th in 81:44 and Colin came home 83rd in 83:22. The winner was Mark McGoldrick (Wharfedale) in 55:46 and the first lady in seventh place was Lindsey Brindle (Horwich RMI) in 61:37. There were 104 entries.

I agree with you Colin, I am not very keen with the Walsh’s myself ,I prefer to run with the Nike’s cross country shoes because they have got more support and comfort then the basic Walsh’s. At the Settle hill race you ran strongly with a good result, also David F. did a solid fell race with 81:84. Well done you two.
