Saturday 14th September – Nidderdale Sprint Triathlon

Jacqueline Ackroyd (Jackie to you and me) but she’s took part in Nidderdale Sprint Triathlon of 400m swim, 20k bike ride and 5k run finishing in 1:28:54.

It was my first triathlon and I was dreading it. My tri suit was tight fitting and showed every bump on my body (how embarrassing) and I had only learnt to swim front crawl eight  weeks ago so I didn’t feel very confident. I managed to swim 20 lengths (very slowly ) in about 16 mins, Yuk.

Transition to the bike went well, even though I got called back as I had my helmet on the wrong way round. The bike ride took just over 42 minutes. By the time I came to the run my adrenaline was going like the clappers. On the run I overtook lots of people  and I took 24:40.

It was a great feeling when I had finished , especially as it was my first triathlon. It is definitely not my last; I guess I am now hooked. The atmosphere was great, and I can’t wait for the next one; plenty of life in the old dog yet!

The winner was Jonty Bright (Stif Cycles) in 1:00:00 and the first lady in fourth position overall was Heather Tuffs in 1:07:46.
