Sunday 12th October – Withins Skyline

Report from Sean O’Halloran:

WithinsSkylinePhotoMid October and it’s the start of the winter fell season and first up was the Withins Skyline Fell Race over at Haworth. The fog was down and visibility was poor upon arrival, however it managed to clear just before the start leaving near perfect running conditions.

There was a great turn out by OAC, minus some of the usual crew unavailable this weekend, including two winter fell virgins. Both Yvette McNally and Sara Elliot decided to venture into the unknown and give the muddy/boggy fell race a try. Upon finishing both Yvette and Sara had beaming smiles confirming they really enjoyed the race and are looking forward to the next.

Due to my ultra marathon fast approaching in November and having done 13 miles the day before I was using this race as a fun training run and was pleased to return home injury free. I really enjoyed this race last year and I had great fun in this years race too.

First home for OAC was Shane Ewen in 27th (51:09). The winner was Simon Bailey, Mercia (41:03) First Lady home was Lindsey Brindle in 16th (48:53).

OAC results: Shane Ewen in 27th (51:09), Simon Toyne 78th (55:43), Chris Stacey 82nd (56:08), Jim Sneath 132nd (59:20), Bob Baker 188th (1:05:37), Sara Elliot 224th (1:13:48), Yvette McNally 246th (1:26:34), Don Buffham 247th (1:28:03), Sean O’Halloran 249th (1:30:00).

Ultra marathon fast approaching , done 13 miles the day before , easy tiger Sean, it seems to me that you have got loads on your plate including the West Yorkshire on Sunday, I admire your will to run more stronger at races, but take it easy please .Well done to everyone who did this fell race that I used to enjoy to run several years back, especially Shane E. with 51:09 that is really good and my friend Don who had indeed a good day on the fell.
