Sunday 12th October – Withins Skyline

Sunday 12th October – Withins Skyline

Report from Sean O’Halloran: Mid October and it’s the start of the winter fell season and first up was the Withins Skyline Fell Race over at Haworth. The fog was down and visibility was poor upon arrival, however it managed to clear just before the start leaving near perfect running conditions. There was a great turn out by OAC, minus some of the usual crew unavailable this weekend, including two winter fell virgins. Both Yvette McNally and Sara Elliot decided…

Sunday 12th October – British Standard Duathlon Championships

Sunday 12th October – British Standard Duathlon Championships

Report from Howard Jeffrey: I went down to contest the British Standard Duathlon Championships today at Emberton Country Park just north of Milton Keynes. I took my reserve training bike as I feel a bit more secure on the road bike than the TT on 40K of open road in the early morning mist. First 10K run was accurate to within a metre the announcer said. Probably the smallest margin of error I have ever heard of in a race…

Saturday 11th October 2014 – Langdale Horseshoe Fell Race

Saturday 11th October 2014 – Langdale Horseshoe Fell Race

One of the premier events in the fell racing calendar saw Matt John finish 12th in 2:29:06 out of 357 finishers after a run/walk/trot of 21.1km and 1,450 metres; or in old money just over 13 miles and 4,757 feet. This year’s race clashed with the OAC fell running weekend and Richard Hamer reports: “It was a damp day generally after a week of dry weather, and when it started raining in the early afternoon the fell tops disappeared from view…

Sunday 5th October – Horsforth 10k

Sunday 5th October – Horsforth 10k

Jamil Parapia stretches his legs: A lovely afternoon for the strangely named Horsforth 10k, strange in that I don’t recall actually running through Horsforth although perhaps the roundabout on the A65 may have crossed into Horsforth territory. Anyway it is a challenging course with the first 2k virtually all uphill followed by 3k virtually all downhill then an uncomfortable run along the bobbly tow path by the side of the Leeds Liverpool canal, finishing on the lush playing fields of…

Sunday 5th October – Bramham Park Fun Run 10k

Sunday 5th October – Bramham Park Fun Run 10k

Hannah Mallinson reports: I arrived at Bramham Park this morning to take part in my first 10k since the end of 2013 following a long, frustrating, few months of injury. The aim was to get round in one piece and if possible run the full 10k, having only been back in training tentatively for four weeks; I wasn’t convinced I’d manage it. As I got out of the car I was delighted to see Tom Hannah pull up next to…

Saturday 14th September – Nidderdale Sprint Triathlon

Saturday 14th September – Nidderdale Sprint Triathlon

Jacqueline Ackroyd (Jackie to you and me) but she’s took part in Nidderdale Sprint Triathlon of 400m swim, 20k bike ride and 5k run finishing in 1:28:54. It was my first triathlon and I was dreading it. My tri suit was tight fitting and showed every bump on my body (how embarrassing) and I had only learnt to swim front crawl eight  weeks ago so I didn’t feel very confident. I managed to swim 20 lengths (very slowly ) in about 16…

Sunday 5th October – Ian Hodgson Mountain Relay

Sunday 5th October – Ian Hodgson Mountain Relay

Report from the hon. handicapper: Another Autumn relay, this time on the fells surrounding the lakeland village of Patterdale. Otley first entered a team in this one back in 2003 and have completed a team every year since. Such is the popularity of the event and the limited number of entries it’s pretty much impossible for new teams to enter now, so hopefully our involvement will continue for a few more years to come. Lisa Maughan and Caron Ralph lined…
