Sunday 15th February – Commondale Beacon 2 Fell race

Report from Andrew Webster: Steve Robinson and myself took the trek over to the North Yorkshire Moors for this enjoyable 8 mile fell/trail/road race. There was a surface for every runner.

The weather was sunny but cool. The route was marked but there were still opportunities to take the wrong turn if you did not keep your eyes peeled (only two near misses for me).

Steve raced ahead of me early on and finished 34 out of 90 runners in a time of 64:15. I managed to find myself in the middle of the field with a massive gap in front (hence nearly taking the wrong turn) and a gap behind. The marathon is leaving me sufficiently fatigued to leave me struggling for speed and stamina. Eventually coming in 52nd in 70:48.

Nice run in an area of the country I have never run, well worth another trip up here for another race in the future.

  1. lots of good races on the NYM. Try Glaisdale in March. I spent half my youth feral in Commondale, so know it well :o)

  2. To be fair Graham the Cleveland Inn in Commondale probably hasn’t changed since your youth, I thought I had gone back in time!!!
