Sunday March 22nd: Heptonstall fell race

report from Shane

I was the only Black & White at this 15 mile route around Calder Valley, taking in Hardcastle Crags, Wadsworth Moor, & Midgeholes, which apparently started life as a dung heap. Following a warm welcome from the vicar of the village, a record 220-strong field set off in warm and sunny conditions, with no breeze, and more than a few returned with sunburn. It was a rollercoaster of a route, with a mix of open access moorland, woods and trails, and a little nav required. I finished in 43rd in 2-hrs 19 mins and 58 seconds (I’m having the sub 2-hr 20 thanks). This was my first race back since Rombalds having had a ham strain.

Photos at woodentops.

Ben Mounsey (CVFR) won in a CR (from Twitter).

As Sean said ,it is great running in a beautiful moorland, and 2 hours 19 minutes for this fell race is a solid one.Well done Shane.
