Saturday 16th May – Charlesworth Chase

Report from Matt Podd: The Charlesworth Chase is a BS fell race up and down Simon Seat. This Saturday saw the fourth running of this race inaugurated to celebrate Nick Charlesworth’s wedding. 1201ft of climbing in 5.2 miles. I was the only Otley athlete running though saw Shane G, Matt J and all the usual suspects. Hard race with a fast run out over fields from Appletreewick, before the main event of the steep climb up to the summit and then a brilliant fast descent back again. The descent is very rocky in places and the guy in front of me, left blood and skin on it, but I helped him up, overtook him and ran as fast as I could for the finish. I was in the last third of the field and took under an hour. The amusing part is that before you cross the finish runners have to down a pint! How fast can you neck a pint after a sprint finish.

Good low key local race. There may be results in the future.

  1. Results up on FRA surprisingly quickly. Ted Mason won in 36.34 with Carol Morgan 50.19. I was 51/80 in 55.26, Not in the last third of the pack, but the middle! and a PB for this race.

  2. Faster than last time! But the bloke I was trying to beat – who was complaining of a hangover, sprinted past me to the line. Nice friendly do – chatted to loads of folk.
