Wednesday 20th May – Askern 10k

Report from Andy Webster: Took the opportunity to catch up with an old running friend from one of my old clubs Barnsley Harriers while travelling back from Rotherham.

The Askern 10 is a pretty flat 10 k course with only a small hill around three miles. The sun was out but so was the wind.

I got off quickly at the start despite a large field of 773 runners. I was ahead of my friend for the first 3 Km. Inevitably he caught up with me and grabbed a couple of puffs of my asthma inhaler as he ran past! I never saw him again until the finish.

Felt quite comfortable all the way round though and achieved my target of a sub 45 minute finish.

Oddity of the calendar but will have completed 6 races in two weeks after the Harrogate league and only been on one training run. Full results.

1: Andrew Challenger 33.12 Hallamshire Harriers
36: Katie Parry Leeds City 36.44

That’s ok Matt, though never strong on that course it’s too hilly for me.
