Saturday 16th May – Fairfield Horseshoe

Saturday 16th May – Fairfield Horseshoe

Report from Graham Lake: To celebrate my brother becoming a V40 the family Lake took a trip to the Lakes to do this race which other runners seem to rave about. The forecast was wrong, as it often is in Cumbria, and we had lovely sun as we warmed up near Rydal Hall. This is a glorious hidden spot for anyone who’s not been there, plenty for the kids to explore while the adults visit the cafe. After a very…

Saturday 16th May – Charlesworth Chase

Saturday 16th May – Charlesworth Chase

Report from Matt Podd: The Charlesworth Chase is a BS fell race up and down Simon Seat. This Saturday saw the fourth running of this race inaugurated to celebrate Nick Charlesworth’s wedding. 1201ft of climbing in 5.2 miles. I was the only Otley athlete running though saw Shane G, Matt J and all the usual suspects. Hard race with a fast run out over fields from Appletreewick, before the main event of the steep climb up to the summit and…

Saturday 16th May – Ripon 10 Mile MT

Saturday 16th May – Ripon 10 Mile MT

Report from Andy Webster: First time I have entered the Ripon 10 (plus a little bit more). For those of you that have not raced it, it is a similar climb to Otley 10 with some trails to run on. The weather was cool, and slightly windy. I set off with Chris Hosker, but after three miles he pulled off from me. Despite currently racing more than training, legs felt better than the Leeds Half last week, where I got…

Saturday 16th May – Over the Odda

Saturday 16th May – Over the Odda

Report from Joanna Hobson: Four ladies flew the Otley flag Over the Odda on Saturday morning on a tough, challenging yet surprisingly enjoyable 10k. Steep climbs & descents meant this was never going to be an easy course, but fortunately the weather was kind to us so we weren’t knee deep in mud & we all managed to stay upright! I think I can safely say we all enjoyed/endured the run, but I don’t think Ann has quite forgiven Lisa…

Wednesday 13th May – John Carr 5K Race 2

Wednesday 13th May – John Carr 5K Race 2

Report from Zack Whitehead: Surprisingly still on the comeback trail from a nasty stress fracture last year it has really taken a frustrating amount of time to get back into the swing of training, my advice to anyone would be listen to the doctor they are normally right about healing times no matter how superhuman you feel you are. It’s nice to be fit enough to try compete in the John Carr series which I very much enjoy doing. These…

Tuesday 12th May – Jack Bloor Fell Race

Tuesday 12th May – Jack Bloor Fell Race

Report from the Hon. Handicapper Sunshine and strong winds greeted a large field of runners in the senior Jack Bloor fell race.  After a comedy false start, when the organiser inadvertently said the word ‘go’ during his pre-race speech, we were off. Just after the start it goes straight into a bottle neck as the path narrows to single file, followed by the steep climb to the Badgerstone, which does give plenty of opportunity to catch up on lost ground.  At this point I was…

April runner of the month:

April runner of the month:

After deliberations and conversations it has been decided that the Runners of the month for April are Richard Clarke, for his storming performance in the London Marathon, and to Richard Smith for years of fine performances for the club, including leading us home on Tuesday and a fast Manchester Marathon. Good luck to him down south. The club were also impressed with recent results by Gary C, Jeremy, John A, Joanna H, Tom M, and especially Frank.

Sunday 10th May- Leeds Half Marathon

Sunday 10th May- Leeds Half Marathon

Report from Laura Hind: Hannah and I entered Leeds half in January following a conversation about our next running targets. It also gave me something to focus on for the next few months with a goal of a sub-2 hr half marathon. Nicky had already entered, it was local, so it seemed like a good idea. Training with the girls and the club has been smooth running, injury free and has provided plenty of motivation to get out and crack…
