Thursday 11th June: Bronte 5 mile road race

Report from mark hall:

The race is a 2 lap event. It starts in Haworth and skirts Penistone hill, which means it is not flat! The race starts with a mile and half of uphill with the final 200m 1in 6, a short downhill and a flat section then start the 2nd lap and onto the hill again. If you are looking for a PB this is not your event.

There were 142 finishers, I finished 4th and 1st V55 and as the race incorporated the Yorkshire veterans championship I also won that. My time was 29.39 which was ok given my continuing foot and ankle problems. I was 20 seconds slower than last year but I am getting closer to my bus pass!

Winner was Craig Shearer Keighley in 28.07.

I did not see any other Otley runners.

  1. When first posted on the site, the report wasn’t attributed to anyone – however your name was inserted soon after my comment.

  2. Congratulations to Mark H. for winning the Yorkshire Championship, 29:37 is as strong performance and fast .. maybe too fast if you consider your poor ankle and foot.. maybe is time to back off and slow down the speed and give time to your leg to recover the full fitness , although to finish 4th out of 142 runners it is an achievement indeed .
