Report from Sean:
On Thursday evening Andrew, Caron, Carmen (from Dragons) and I traveled to Kettlewell to take part in the Kettlewell Fell Race. This was my third race in eight days and the second in five days for Carmen so having fun was the ultimate aim.
Rechristened for 2015, the Kettlewell Anniversary is challenging, yet not too far or over difficult terrain. With 5 miles and about1800ft of climb, the going was generally on tracks but mostly over grass with a few boggy bits. The climbing presented the challenge but the descents were fast and fun for those so inclined. An added twist (do you have lime or lemon with your G&T?) there was a prize (bottle of Gin) for the first man and first woman who caught the rat runner on route and carried a rat to the finish. Although we did not catch the rat runner, Andrew, Carmen and I really enjoyed this race (Caron was marshalling).
Yes it was tough, but with the friendly atmosphere, stunning views, a well marshalled/flagged course oh and not forgetting the soup and bread in the pub afterwards, you could not ask any more for your £4 entry fee (£5 on the night).
The winner was Ted Mason from Wharfedale in 37:00 and the First Lady was Chantel Busby from Ilkley in 50:34. First home for Otley was of course Andrew Robertshaw finishing 6th in 40:39. Sean O’Halloran finished 68th in 01:18:44. Carmen finished 70th in 1:26:22
Next Thursday is the Beamsley Beacon Fell Race if anyone fancies having some fun, Races start 7.15pm.
