Sunday 14th June: rosedale marathon

Report from Matt Podd
Went out and did this today, I drove over with a 5.30 alarm call and Sara R and Gilly (Up & Running) had camped. This is in the Hardmoors series of races – very well organised by John and Shirley; with this one starting from Hutton Le Hole and running round the North York Moors for a bit. Though billed as a marathon, it actually creeps into ultra territory at 27.5ish miles. Over 90% off road on fast runnable tracks with only 2500ft of climbing. Trouble was it drizzled all the way round and was cold and windy – most people had their coats on in the middle of June, and there was no view.
Still I had a good race, and unlike recent marathons I didn’t fade at the end, but was able to give the man in the green shirt a proper race. I finished in about 4hrs 20 mins and didn’t see Sara, Gilly or the dog, but hope they had a good day.

You had a good race indeed Matt , to do 4 hours and 20 minutes on a tough 27ish miles course like the hardmoors, I would say you had a powerful day on the North York Moors , although you did not see Sara , Gilly or the dog at the finish line , maybe they were still way back on the course because you had such strong performance . Well done .

I think the feedback is that Sara and Gilly enjoyed themselves but the weather was rubbish! Finished in sometime over 6 hours. Well done to you all!
