Sunday 28th June – Humber Bridge Half Marathon

Sunday 28th June – Humber Bridge Half Marathon

Report from Joanna Hobson
Today I completed the Humber Bridge Half Marathon. At the beginning of this year I decided that 2015 was my year to tackle a half marathon. Due to various other commitments I was unable to join my Otley club mates in the runs they were doing so I chose the Humber Bridge Half as the start line is minutes from my mother in laws house and so made for an easy wake up call this morning!
The race starts very close to the Humber Bridge, and then after 2 miles running around Hessle you cross the bridge over in to Barton in Lincolnshire for an approximately 7 mile journey around North Lincolnshire before crossing the bridge once again to the finish line. The course was by no means flat and does include “cardiac hill” at the 9 mile point, but fortunately none of the hills were too bad. A gentle undulating run with one big hill is how I would describe it, but I did hear 2 guys talking at the end saying it was the hilliest run they’d ever done (obviously never been to Otley!)
A really well marshalled race with lots of water stations & plenty of local support so one I would recommend for the future.
The winner was Matthew Nutt from Wimbledon Windmillers in 1:15:02, and 1st female in 35th overall position was Keri Pearson from City of Hull AC in 1:26:56. I came in 1059th, 223rd female in 2:02:09 which was of course a PB! Having done very little distance training due to my aged dodgy knees I am thrilled to bits with my time.

  1. Fabulous! Congratulations on breaking your duck and welcome to the sub-2 chase pack!!

  2. Joanna, good result as I know that this race is not flat having done it in the past. I think on a flat circuit you would go under 2 hours, really good run.

  3. I agree with Laura on this one, Congratulations indeed for your PB. Joanna , with a time of 2:02 is a lovely result especially if you consider that the route is not a flat one and your knees at the moment are not at their best .Well done Joanna.

  4. Thanks guys I really appreciate your kind comments. Still not sure about doing another one but watch this space!

  5. Well done Joanna, you’re amazing. Laura, we have a race on to get that sub 2!
