Saturday 8th August – Arncliffe Gala Fell Race

Report from Sean O’Halloran:

Perfect day for a fell race. Decided to head for Arncliffe today to take part in the Arncliffe Gala Fell Race. This was another BOFRA race and a championship counter I think. The race started in the middle of Arncliffe, taking you up 450 feet,  with a run across the top before heading back down to the finish. Total race length 1.9 mile.
The winner was the course record holder Simon Bailey from Mercia in a time of 10:23. First lady was Rachel Hill from Settle in a time of 13:46.

First home for Otley was Andy Hunt 37th in 14:16, I finished in 100th place in 24:21,  full results on the BOFRA site here.

I encourage everyone to try one of these BOFRA races they are great fun.

ps, check out 1970’s fashion, archive footage from the 1976 gala here.

I have just seen the film Sean , and it was indeed a splendid trip in the past , I just loved it especially when the runners towards the finish line inside the gala field had to avoid any kind of hurdles. Your performance Sean in 24 :21 is good if you think the hard climb of 450 feet and I would say as well that it was a perfect day for a fell race . Also Andy H. with 14:16 had a super day in Arncliffe.

Sean, must have said a million billion times not to exaggerate, you were 101st! Well done nonetheless and Andy too. Not likely to do a fell race again any time soon myself but never say never.
PS: still wearing the 70’s gear!
