Sunday 9th August – Round Hill Fell Race

A full list of results is available here.

First of all a big thanks to all who helped in making a successful event.  After heavy rain last year, this year saw much better weather for the marshals, although probably a little on the warm side for those racing.

And a bit thanks to all those racing as the surplus from the race, in the region of £300 will be sent to the Brain Tumour Research across Yorkshire charity.

The race was won by Lee Athersmith, Wharfedale Harriers in a speedy 55:35, second was a very muddy Harry Holmes, York Knavesmire Harriers a victim of the bog in 56:48 and third Marc Sennett, Wharfedale 58:37.

First back for the host club Otley and first Vet 40 was Liam Dunne breaking the hour in 59:35.  Ian Rowbotham, Harrogate Harriers was first Vet 50, 1:06:00.  First Vet 60 & 70 were both from Ilkley Harriers being Nick Pearce 1:06:52 and Graham Breeze 1:29:43 respectively.

There was a closer battle at the head of the ladies race as Rachel Pilling, Pudsey & Bramley finished 19 seconds ahead of Otley AC’s Laura Clark. Carol Morgan was third and first Vet 40.  Sally Houghton from Ripon Runners had one of the performances of the day, finishing fourth and first Vet 50 with a time of 1:11:11.  Not to be out done Sue Morley established a new Lady Vets. 60 record with a time of 1:30:07.

Otley AC positions & times were as follows…. oh and the team of Liam, Edward, Laura and Mary took the team honours.  Beer, wine or chocolate next time you’re at the club!

Great day out, thanks to the weather, the Robertshaws, Barbara and Colin and all the marshals. I’m proud to be associated with such a low key race. Bogs were a bit dry this year though.

This was a lovely race to marshal & observe & I’m sure a lot easier than running it! A really grand morning out! Well done to all 129 entrants & finishers, not a single DNF.

Thanks for organising, it was a lovely morning out!

  5. #5 by Liam Dunne on August 10, 2015 - 7:55 pm

I love this undulating course and it’s definitely one of my favourite off-road races.
Well done to the Robertshaw’s et al for their organising and marshaling and a nice touch to raise money for the brain tumor research charity.
Great to get some good local support along the route as it always helps ease the pain. Cheers!

I did think of throwing some ouzo at you Liam to remind u of your holidays but you were running too fast and I didn’t want to hit the runner behind! Well done to you and all the black and whites, great turnout.

Well done to runners and marshals alike; thank you to everyone involved – a fantastic amount raised for BTRS – your continued support for this important charity means a lot to me and the Cowan family.

I agree with all the positive comments about this lovely fell race ,especially those of Liam . I would say as well that the Round Hill Fell Race has an unique route and it is awesome to ran. Also the marshals are really nice and the water station people are great Emma P. and his dad Bob, their very fresh water was appreciate indeed in a difficult moment for me ,and it was good to see Emma after almost one year. 59 38 of Liam D. is excellent running. Well done to everyone.

I think Liam is doing secret training or is there another reason?. You mentioned ouzo Caron but maybe instead of blood doping he has replaced blood with ouzo running in his veins, is ouzo on the banned doping list ?

Ha! Could be Mark, need to check up on that one but if it makes him even more faster we might just be able to fiddle it!
