Sunday 30th August – Halifax Marathon

Report from Tom Lynch: The Halifax Marathon is a fairly small local half and full marathon event with a hilly course consisting of a half marathon lap completed twice for the marathon runners. Due to a course change this year to a full road course rather than mixed terrain and some last minute tweaks to the route there was no published profile, but my watch and Strava suggest the total ascent was somewhere between 850 – 950 meters. It was perfect running weather with only a light breeze and not too sunny. It was my first marathon and I realised about half way round after running the first half too fast that I had picked quite a challenging run for my first go, nevertheless I was pleased to come in 20th place with my time of 3:46:23.6, despite completely going to pieces in the last 10 km. The winning time of 2:47:20.1 was set by Jason Cherriman of Leeds City AC, 1st female was Theresa Majeed in 3:34:54.3 with 82 finishers in total.
