Thursday 13th August – Eccup New Inn Handicap

Thursday 13th August – Eccup New Inn Handicap

With the holiday season in full flow at the moment it was a bit of a low turn out for this month’s handicap.  Sara managed hold on to her lead on the last hill, crossing the finish line 6 seconds ahead of Ian.  Tom Lynch came through the field for third retaining his place at the top of the handicap table.  Soon to be member Ahmed recorded the fastest time of the night 4 seconds quicker than Tom. The top of the…

Wednesday 12th August – York Millennium Bridge 5k

Wednesday 12th August – York Millennium Bridge 5k

Report from Jamil Parapia: Zack and I decided to enter this annual 5k in York. The course is very flat albeit with a few sharp turns and a duck or two to avoid so the race represents a good opportunity to run a fast time. I led the race for much of it but was out sprinted by a younger gazelle losing out by 4 seconds. However I was pleased to record a new pb (quick look at the Garmin…

Sunday 9th August – Askern 10 mile

Sunday 9th August – Askern 10 mile

Report from Mark Hall: I drove down to South Yorkshire to run in this well established race. I have competed in this event many times and it never gets any easier. It uses a tough circuit with 3 hills in the second half. Today was made difficult by the very hot temperature. The cloud cover disappeared 5 minutes before the start and reappeared 10 minutes after the finish, making for a very hard race. I was the only OAC runner….

Sunday 9th August – Round Hill Fell Race

Sunday 9th August – Round Hill Fell Race

A full list of results is available here. First of all a big thanks to all who helped in making a successful event.  After heavy rain last year, this year saw much better weather for the marshals, although probably a little on the warm side for those racing. And a bit thanks to all those racing as the surplus from the race, in the region of £300 will be sent to the Brain Tumour Research across Yorkshire charity. The race was won by…

Saturday 8th August – Alaska 10k

Saturday 8th August – Alaska 10k

Report from Phil Robinson on his travels: We arrived in Anchorage, Alaska on Friday afternoon following a couple of days in Seattle. Saturday morning I made my way to the Alaska Pacific University campus where this 10k race was due to start at 10am.  The organisers are very proud of their course record – 28.35 – set by a local runner in the 1980s who beat Alberto Salazar into second place. With such a quick time I expected that either…

Saturday 8th August – Arncliffe Gala Fell Race

Saturday 8th August – Arncliffe Gala Fell Race

Report from Sean O’Halloran: Perfect day for a fell race. Decided to head for Arncliffe today to take part in the Arncliffe Gala Fell Race. This was another BOFRA race and a championship counter I think. The race started in the middle of Arncliffe, taking you up 450 feet,  with a run across the top before heading back down to the finish. Total race length 1.9 mile. The winner was the course record holder Simon Bailey from Mercia in a…

Sunday 2nd August: York 10k

Sunday 2nd August: York 10k

Form Howard Jeffrey: On Saturday’s I cycle up to Wetherby and back with a brisk park run in between. It is a good workout for duathlon training but not great for racing on the Sunday. Even when you try and control the pace it is always tempting to catch the person in front. I sort of aim for 22.30’s at the parkrun at Wetherby which is a twisty turny affair on grass around playing fields so although pancake flat is…
