Saturday 16th January – The John Cowan Harewood Handicap

After  months of rain the sunny forecast brought out hoards of walkers to the Harewood estate, making parking a little difficult.  A good turn out for the first handicap of the year saw Carol had a fantastic run to win her second handicap in a row,  I think I need to be a bit harder next time!  Tom Pomfrett passed nearly everyone in finishing second a minute clear of Phil in third.  Without a photo finish it proved to be impossible separate Hugh and Rogan who recorded the fastest time of the day.

Thanks to Jack & Justina for setting everyone off as I arrived a little late to get back in time from ‘flouring‘ the route.  The next handicap is the Eccup Alwoodley Lane (6 miles) on Sat. 27th Feb.

For those of you how like your race stats. I’ve updated the Handicap Times spreadsheet this means that Tom & Phil are now just 9 short of 200 handicaps and this was Carol’s 100th.  I’ve added a couple of columns to the ‘Runners’ tab for the average & variation of finish position as a percentage.  Handicap Times spreadsheet.

Yep, thanks for organising. It was a very enjoyable event despite the fact that at the finish line, instead of getting on my haunches and coughing up some phlegm (which is my usual post run ritual) I had to change my 3 yr old’s trousers as the excitement of seeing Daddy stumbling to 17th place had proved too much for her. Happy days.

mmmm – last 3 years times 37.31, 37.28, 37.23 ….. if this rate of improvement continues i could get a pb on this course by the age of 170….

Congratulations to Carol A. for winning the John Cowan race in 38:43 that is a result indeed . It was good to see Tom H. back in racing after the fall with a not bad 45:18. Also Kirsty P. had a solid race with 35:38 made with an efficient stride , and Nicola L. had a super race with a splendid 34:01. Well done to everybody .

I would call it consistency through the years Philip , maybe next year you could go under 37:20 if you are in good form . Hannah L. also ran well with 40:48 and as well Laura H.did a good race with 40:21, Ursula M. with 37:00 had a good day running in Harewood .
