Sunday 3rd April – European Indoor Masters Atheltics Championships, Ancona Italy

Report from Caroline Marler:CarolineMarler_european_vets_ancona_2016

I had my first race at an International Masters Championships since winning the W60 400m and 800m in the Outdoor Championships in Izmir, Turkey in 2014. Over a year of injuries and illnesses had reduced training but as I had entered a new age group – W65 it seemed worth having a go at competition again.

I was delighted to win the 400m in 73.57, setting a new British and European record! 2nd was Ros Tabor (GB) in 76.15 – she had won the 800m, 1500m and 3000m over the week’s championship. 3rd was Veronika Scharbatke (Germany) in 81.13.

Team_europea_vets_ancona_2016Next big goal is the Outdoor World Championships in Perth, Australia in October where it would be good to try to break the Outdoor European record of 72.45 and win a medal. If I can stay uninjured and build up the training I will also compete in the 800m there and try to replicate my 1st in the World Masters in Brazil in 2013.

Brilliant running Caroline! You are a credit to the club, I can’t believe how far you travel for your races, do you incorporate a holiday as well?

Congratulations Caroline. Your times and performances are outstanding. I think superlatives are too often used in comments but in your case they are certainly deserved.
