Wednesday 18th May – Askern 10k

Report from Mark Hall:

I drove over to South Yorkshire, Askern, near Doncaster.  I did this event a long time ago and remembered it as flat. Mmm! Apart from the  1Km long climb at 5k and another long drag it was! I was looking to go under 35 mins so I was a little disappointed as conditions were very good, no wind and a light rain, ideal for fast running.  After Sunday’s Ripon 10m, I expected to feel tired but no excuses my legs felt fine. Looking at the front end of the race people were generally slower than expected. Askern organise 3 races a year. In the distant past they were well supported by OAC runners. (next event Askern 10m,14th August).

Winners: Dan Kestrel, Barnsley ac 32.54  and  Jenny Latham, Wakefield 36:18, full results.

Mark Hall, 12th, 35.22, 1st V55

600 starters.

  1. Well done Mark on another super result. I’ll perhaps try and do their 10m event if I’m not away!!

  2. Well done Mark.

Entered this one, but running niggles prevented me from seeing you lay down yet another top performance.

Leading UK V55 male over 5K, 10K and 10m; you’re on fire Mark!

  3. I agree with the positive comments made by Sara E. and Peter C . about the top performances who gave Mark H. the lead at national level . His 35:22 is really fast , achieved on not a flat course , a great result well deserved. Yes Askern races were quite popular with Otley runners , and our Ian Fisher won several time in Askern 10m , I did several races years ago in Askern and I have still got the t shirts of the 10miles one, this one like Esholt races for some reason do not attract so much members of the club no more . Well ran Mark.
