Wednesday 18th May – Askern 10k

Wednesday 18th May – Askern 10k

Report from Mark Hall: I drove over to South Yorkshire, Askern, near Doncaster.  I did this event a long time ago and remembered it as flat. Mmm! Apart from the  1Km long climb at 5k and another long drag it was! I was looking to go under 35 mins so I was a little disappointed as conditions were very good, no wind and a light rain, ideal for fast running.  After Sunday’s Ripon 10m, I expected to feel tired but no excuses my…

Wednesday 18th May – Kildwick Fell Race

Wednesday 18th May – Kildwick Fell Race

Report from Andrew Robertshaw: This is an excellent short, fast race a couple of miles down the Leeds Liverpool canal from my home town of Silsden.  So a perfect warm up and down along the canal, with a flat out 4 ish miles in between, passing the Pinnacle on Farnhill moor twice. The race in some ways in similar to the Chevin Fell race, with a steep road section to start and finish with good off road paths in between,  the difference…

Sunday 15th May – Ripon 10 mile (multi terrain)

Sunday 15th May – Ripon 10 mile (multi terrain)

Report from Mark Hall: This is the 3rd time I have competed in this event, it takes in some beautiful countryside, not that you see much of it when racing as it is usually through crunched up eyes so the views do appear distorted! It is nice to race and not be chasing times, which is not always enjoyable. I have raced sparingly this year as the old legs are complaining more than they used to! The Ripon 10m is certainly not flat…

Saturday 14th May – Over the Odda 10k

Saturday 14th May – Over the Odda 10k

Report from Stephen Boddy: After taking part in the inaugural running of this event but missing last year’s I was pleased to reacquaint myself with one of my favourite local races. Despite there being nearly 300 starters, this race has a very low key feel and is a very well organised and friendly event. The route takes in some beautiful local trails which I know well after living in Highroyds* for a few years. It starts with a mile long…

Wednesday May 11th: John Carr 5k

Wednesday May 11th: John Carr 5k

The John Carr series consists of 3 races in 3 consecutive Wednesday’s in May every year. I completed all 3 last year, really enjoyed them and managed to win the series. This year I was in two minds whether to compete as I’d done Manchester marathon a few weeks ago and I also have another marathon in the lakes next week. However, after a successful Harrogate league run last week and a bit of persuasion from training partner Zack Whitehead…

Tuesday 10th May: Jack Bloor fell race

Tuesday 10th May: Jack Bloor fell race

Report from Graham Luckily the weather was a bit cooler than of late for the Jack Bloor Fell Race at Ilkley. This is a pure un-flagged fell race, but in reality the route choices between checkpoints are limited. However, I did go wrong last time out, so was glad I did a quick reccie the night before. The route takes in two climbs, one steep one up to the Badgerstone, then after a nice downhill, a second longer climb right…

Sunday 8th May: European Duathlon championships Copenhagen

Sunday 8th May: European Duathlon championships Copenhagen

Report from Howard: Well, what could be better than a 10K run in the blistering heat… you guessed.. two 10k runs with a 60k bike ride in between! I had a great weekend in Copenhagen and put in a solid ‘long distance’ duathlon on a flat but scenic route on the Jutland peninsula. The race kicked off at 8.00 am with the elites, then the women then the age groupers with my group off at 8.30. It was already about…

Sunday 8th May: Leeds Half Marathon

Sunday 8th May: Leeds Half Marathon

Report from Hannah: What can I say about this years Leeds Half other than it was hot, hot, hot!! There was a good turn out from Otley AC and I think we can safely say the heat was starting to get to us all even before we started running, we weren’t looking forward to it at all. For those of you unfamiliar with the route it starts from the Headrow and you work your way up Meanwood Road and Stonegate…
