Report from Caron Ralph:
Andrew and I decided to introduce my visiting kiwi mother to a traditional Yorkshire county fete (with an ulterior motive being a 4 mile road race and a fell race) Off we set through the beautiful countryside to Arncliffe. Only a tiny place but with a lovely vibe. I had intended to do both and I’m sure Andrew did too but as we got out of the car we both said we couldn’t be bothered doing the road race and Andrew went one better and said he couldn’t be bothered doing the fell race either! So I took it upon myself to solely represent Otley AC in a massively long 1.9 mile fell race. Typical of a BOFRA race, very steep and very short! We started off in the village centre and ran along a farm track to the bottom of the hill then up a leg sapping, lung busting climb to the top, a loop around then the descent down what we’d just run up. No broken ankles from what I saw, ending up back in the village centre. First home was current course champion Simon Bailey-Mercia Fell Runners in 10.27, 1st lady was Katherine Lawson-Helm Hill in 14.13, I came in 75th in 17.36.
Full results here. We stayed and watched the dog show and the Strong man/lady competition featuring fell runner extraordinaire Ted Mason and Jo Buckley representing the ladies! All and all a good afternoon out.
